Oppo, I have a question. How do you spot a car enthusiast?
How would you be able to tell the difference between someone who just has a cool car and someone who knows just about every spec of their car? Could you be able to pick out an enthusiast in a group of street racers or uh... donk-ers? If you see a nice car cruising down the street is there a surefire way to tell if that person is an enthusiast? I'm sure there are plenty of people that drive a nice or cool car and the only thing they know about it is that it has a steering wheel and radio. Oppo, let me know your thoughts.

If you hear his car downshifting a lot. He probably is an enthusiast practicing his heel & toe.

You give them the secret auto enthusiast hand signal and see if they come back with the appropriate gesture.

you can't really be sure, ever. Without talking to them.
But non-cosmetic performance mods would be a start.
especially if it has a cage.

You just described several kinds of car enthusiasts. You need not limit "true" enthusiasts to those who know stats, can wrench, and/or care about ultimate performance.

Couple things:
Expensive wheels that aren't trendy, popular, or especially good looking.
Cleanliness: Gearheads for the most part tend to be fairly religious about keeping their rigs clean.
Tires: Sure, that car has BBSs/Volks/HREs, but if they're wrapped in some nasty cheap-o tire, the owner ain't a real car guy.

What beatsbynelly said, you talk to them and see how they react while conversing. If they're a prick, they're a prick. If they talk out of their ass, they talk out of their ass. A true enthusiast is one in harmony/balance; sorta, not really, O don't know. haha. Just talk to them.

ask them what they think about whats happened to Lancia. if they have no idea what your talking about, they most likely aren't a gear head.

You don't see them. You hear them . . . talking . . . all the time . . . about cars . . .

You take one look at their car and you notice that is well maintained. Maybe not the prettiest, but definitely not falling apart.
